Make sure that when you’re planning a garage sale hunt this week to grab your GPS and punch in 112 Ocean Avenue in southern Long Island, New York. On your excursion to a great bargain, you may find yourself having to brave more than just Long Island’s horrific traffic.

For those unfamiliar with the aforementioned address, it is the former residence of the DeFeo family, a family of six who were cut down by five after Robert DeFeo (the eldest son) brutally murdered the rest of his family. Several years later the property was purchased by the Lutz family, who left abruptly one night, claiming the house was haunted by evil spirits and demonic, black ooze. The latter family’s experience has been turned into a book, and also the popular “The Amityville Horror” films.

This past weekend, the property was used as part of a moving sale. The event was attended by hundreds, who were surely more interested in a ghost sighting, than the old furniture and workout equipment being peddled. Attendees were allowed to enter some parts of the estate…certain areas were off limits, and no cameras were allowed into the function.

Supposedly, none of the items being sold belonged to the DeFeo or Lutz families. It is certainly not my place to say that people should refrain from purchasing coolers, mirrors, and fishing gear from a suspected zone for paranormal activity, but why risk it? If the guy who bought the alarm clock notices that it works without being plugged in, and that it goes off every morning at 3:15, he better move it before hell juice starts seeping through his walls, and demon children begin walking his halls. Caveat emptor people.
